A Transformative experience
The Preface

April/May 2015
Peaches and Maple leafs! Peaches because I think so many things are just peachy, and today, my life is suddenly flowing with the scent of maple leafs. When I was younger, I wish I had known, that God sometimes places before us an opportunity to experience a transformative experience. It's more than just a challenge or even a personal best. It becomes me, the person transcending into parts unknown, partly discovered by a leap of faith. My transformative experience isn't scaling the rock face of Mt. Everest, obtaining a Phd in mirco-biotics, or running the Boston marathon. My transformative experience will be my nearly one-month long writing, walking, women experience with thirty-four other women writers along Newfoundland's Trans Canada Trail. I am apart of the 2015 Fellowship of women writers bound for Newfoundland, who also walk around the world. This trip, this blog, is now apart of my legacy. I decided to make this trip, my adventure almost a year ago, and now I have three months until the much anticipated trip. When I think of Canadians, I think about the accents of the Parisians in Paris, or the Italians in Rome. But when I was a kid, as an American woman from Chicago, I could never hear the accents of the Canadians, therefore never hearing their call. But now, I hear their pronunciations, their phonetics, and the word stress on all of their chippy and syrupy, English words. I enter this log, this journal, this academie, (spelling is my ode to Paris one day), this blog, at age 53. Over the next several months, I will be a super blog maven, entering a field of being one pontificating writer and super blogger. I will be giving my family, my children, my students, and all of my loved ones a glimpse into my world. I will be as strikingly poetic with my sometimes cheesy, fun, and healthy words. I cannot wait to tell you my version of what it is like to gold-strike for journalistic reasons. (I now reside in southern Nevada, just 20 minutes outside of Las Vegas). And you know what? I really want to tell you. I want to speak to you, to those whom I hope are reading, to a long lost friend, to an old boyfriend, and to the global community at large. Within the next couple of weeks, I will add pertinent researched material to this blog to insight you, to educate some, and to provoke the soul within those who want to accept God's challenges. The material that I will be adding will be researched material not about the Toronto Maple Leafs, but material about hiking nearly one-hundred miles of the St. John's East Coast trail, in Newfoundland, Canada. So, come back once. Come back twice. Hit a field goal with my blog entries by re-discovering. as I surely hope to re-discover myself. Come back just to hear me equate Newfoundland to My Mackinac Island Summer. Come back to hear me talk about earthy coffees, saltwater taffy, and honey & maple breakfast buns. I hope to realize the universe's transformative experience for myself. My name is Gia Benigni Di Borgo. Thank-you for joining me. One day, it occurred to me that I had been hand-selected by the almighty Lord himself, and it was up to me to accept God's mission for me to attend this pilgrimage to a land unknown. I really believe. I believe that God wants me to go on this trip. Today, Saturday the 25th of April, I missed an opportunity to hike 8 miles at the Las Vegas Gold Strike Hot Springs! It's okay since I plan on practicing in along the Boulder Hwy Trails this spring. |
An excerpt from the transformative blog:
by gia benigni di borgo
I'm an American-born woman who sees so much beauty, inside of humor, lilacs, and fresh wild horses. I love to laugh endlessly, only then do I calm down and realize, that the beauty is everything. I think about a servitude life in 1865, and my mind drifts, standing on the cliff that overlooks Lake Huron. It is only then, that my soul whipped out and around, from its place of salvation and resting place, to see if anyone has witnessed what I just witnessed. I saw it, as others did, as we all stood there, on the cliff of Mackinac. We stood on the top of East Bluff, depicted in the photo on the left that was taken by Anne's Tablet. (We stood on the top of East Bluff on the left of the cliff). It was the summer of 1979, and like a day of playing hooky from school and escaping to the ballpark, I was present, on this immensely beautiful, majestic island.
What did Terrance Mann say in that poignant moment in the film, "Field of Dreams?" He said, "It's will be as if they've dipped themselves into magic waters..." Now, James Earl Jones, who plays the banned book author Terrance Mann in the movie, wasn't pontificating over Mackinac Island, but the possibilities of a majestic corn field in Iowa, USA. But really? It is as if he was resonating, restoring, incorporating all of the moments of his life, into one place. "Ahh, they will most certainly come Ray...and it will be just as if they've dipping themselves into magic waters!" (more) |
